Introduction & Unit Brief

      In our second year of uni, we have the option to chose from three selected topics of which we wish to study, these being 'Wig Work and Postiche', 'Beauty Editorial Writing' and 'Special Effects'. This was hard for me to chose because I've always loved special effects, that what originally make me decided to go to uni and get a degree in make-up and hair. I ended up choosing 'Wig Work and Postiche' because, although I love special effects, I enjoyed the hair side to the course alot more during first year, which I didn't expect myself. This is our unit brief of what we shall be doing in this topic;

"Hair styling/design and postiche are the two of the most important tools a make-up artist can work with because they can radically transform a person's appearance. This unit is designed to introduce the essential skills and techniques for hair styling and postiche application, including studio safety, health & hygiene. Students will be introduced to the technical and creative processes involved in the styling of hair and the application of postiches. Students will also learn about the historical contexts and cultural value relevant to the fashions in period and contemporary hair and wig styling. Students will develop an awareness of research as the basis of creative design development and establish the relationship between research, design and realisation required for a successful project outcome."

      I'm so excited to start this because it's something completely new that I've never done before. This subject of hair has really blown my mind already with learning all the new techniques I can used to create amazing hair styles, so I can't wait to start my own wig related creations. I am slightly nervous about this because I know how hard it is and how time consuming it can be to create a wig.
